The Supreme Court (SC) seems to be on its last nerve as far as presidential immunity is concerned, as it is pursuing the NRO cases against the PPP leadership with vehement gusto. With a failure of the letters requesting a reopening of the Swiss cases in reaching their intended destination, the judiciary has become inflamed. In the heat of such a situation it is not surprising to see such drastic steps being taken. However, the circumstances are extremely embarrassing for the country as, in this case, we are directly dealing with a foreign justice system as well. We keep forgetting that we are dealing with the Swiss courts and the Supreme Court’s insistence on reopening the Swiss cases has cut little ice with the Swiss government or judicial authorities. The very much reason is that international law does not allow conviction of any incumbent head of state. He enjoys clear immunity given by the constitutional of Pakistan not be Chief Justice or any other court.
One thing that is pertinent to mention that Zardari spent 11 years in jail on various charges but was never convicted, but he was given no compensation, instead Judiciary is one again chasing him to hunt for another long time. Judiciary also failed to consider the apology by Mr. Saif Ur Rehman for engineering fabricated cases against Asif Ali Zardari.
This situation does not augur well and Judiciary must keep in view the merits of case, while also calling those in justice who convicted Zardari for 11 years without any charge proved. It is prime Obligation of Justice to analyze both the sides of picture.

After all there is another court, which is bigger than all courts combined, it is the court of the people. The critics forget to take into account the most important notion that despite all the rotten charges of corruption and the NRO, the people of Pakistan still voted for PPP. Asif Ali Zardari was elected by an overwhelming two-thirds majority and the significant part of the election was that representatives of three smaller provinces voted almost unanimously for him. He is the lynchpin of the federation and little do all these anti-democratic forces realize that it is not in the genes of the party of Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto to back down. Not now, not ever. It is time for democracy to prevail to reclaim Jinnah’s Pakistan. We must realize that the present democratic dispensation is the sequel to NRO. Had it not been achieved, there would have been no elections, no assemblies, no free judiciary and no free media. The national leadership too would still have been languishing in exile.

A day before the proposed 18th Amendment package was all set to be tabled before the parliament for approval, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) took a U-turn that created a virtual deadlock in the country’s politics. Few people firmly believe that Nawaz Sharif's U-turn was at the behest of some quarters and the PML-N chief adhered to “some phone calls” he received just before his press conference. This sudden move by PML (N) Chief took many within his party by surprise since all issues apart from the renaming of the NWFP had been settled by the committee amicably. Nawaz denied that any agreement had been reached on the issue of the judges in the committee, and said his party had reservations over the proposed package, very strange. Everyday I dislike PML(N) n even more. We would have reached some consensus by today if dogmatic Sharif had been sincere with Pakistan. The fact is this Mian Nawaz Sharif is playing in the hand of GHQ that’s why he created hurdle.

Democracy has won. The decision of the elected government to respect wishes of the people and submit to rule of law has won the day for democracy. The independence of judiciary stands restored and today this august institution enjoys more credibility than any other that we have. It would have been much better if the opposition has debated it instead bring it into the streets and blaming the Govt . But still,Govt showed wisdom and averted the threat. For a democratic Govt it was not the matter of win or loss but it was the matter of survival of democracy and sanctity of institutions. And that is because democracy wins when people win. The elected government submitted to the will of the people and showed public opinion is most important for it rather than self esteem. This is the difference between democracy and dictatorship. The Judiciary on the other hand must also stop on climbing at wrong tracks and listen to the advice of anti-democratic elements. It must respect the privileges of the incumbent Govt and abstain crossing constitutional boundaries.

And we all are thankful to this sensibility, which is crucial for the poors and for those people who are already in miserable condition due to other daily routine burdens.

Normally our country's politicians just simply ignore any such consequences in front of their personal benefits. And that's the root of all Evils when a person stops thinking about others, specially helpless and less privileged, and only takes care of his/her own personal aims and priorities..

Benazir Bhutto Shaheed in her book “Reconciliation” gives a detailed outlook of Pakistani society. Nawaz Sharif though claims and pretends to have secular agenda but always supported the right wing fanatics. We should not politicise the judiciary by taking all matters before it. If we take every comma and full stop in the Constitution to the court for interpretation, then tomorrow it will be the court which will be making every major decision. PML-N has been deliberately keeping its stance on the president’s immunity vague so as to gain political mileage from the situation arising out of the Supreme Court’s verdict on the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO). PML(N) leadership seems totally confused and ambiguous on every issue. This is not time of scoring points, we need to stand up right for sake of Pakistan.

Yes, we can understand Mr Qureshi that you always take all the decisions at your own without any external pressure since you are the 'Foreign' Minister yourself and you, Shaukat Tarin and Rehman Malik are assigned the leading protfolios in the incapable team of Mr Zar-dari. Keep it up since you all are fully capable to deteriorate this whole mess!

Do you still wanna ride someone else’s shoulder to reach at top, even afetr being dumped by Gen Musharraf whom you supported in his so-called referendum in search of a short cut.

It is ironic watching and hearing men such as Imran Khan, Hameed Gul, Munawar Hassan and Zaid Hamid spout populist lectures and speeches on corruption, sovereignty and patriotism, when the truth is that much of what these gentlemen are spouting is nothing more than a slippery version of the narrative propagated by the above-mentioned elite whose roots are not in the so-called masses, but in the smoky corridors of Pakistan’s intelligence agencies and in the comfortable luxury drawing-rooms & TV lounges of the country’s urban upper-income groups.

Still a very long way to go for the apex court to prove its impartiality when it comes to dealing with various interest groups. And it needs to keep distance from political motivationals for a better impression of treating evenly across the board. And we also feel that the CJ and any other superior courts judges should avoid to make any public statements like this one leaving the politics to the 'dirty' politicians.

Ther 'foreign' minister has explained the deal as follows: “Many people misunderstood these deals, and we are now trying to explain to them that the land we want to sell is not land that belongs to anyone or even has any existing agriculture activity. The land we want to offer investors is not used by anyone due to lack of investment, and so we are committed to going ahead with the deals.”

Our foreign minister is a farmer himself and must know what he’s talking about. However, the fact is that we, the concerned citizens of Pakistan, now face the prospect of hundreds of thousands of arable hectares of land being sold to foreigners when we face numerous development, poverty, agricultural and irrigation challenges of our own. The fact is that the minister is making these statements at a moot designed specifically to raise funds for Pakistan – urgently needed funds. This, in turn, raises suspicions about whether or not the questions that have been raised – the “misunderstanding” the foreign minister says that we harbour – have properly been answered by our elected representatives before we commit the rest of the nation on an uncharted course of action.

The foreign minister says that the land being offered under these deals is currently uncultivated. If so, then has the government of Pakistan considered allowing Pakistanis to farm this land? After all, there are millions of unemployed Pakistanis eager to work to make a living.

Remember, the British put Indians to work cultivating newly canal-irrigated land, to much success, over a hundred years ago. Why can’t Pakistani’s cultivate the land being offered to foreign investors and export their produce to them, for income and profit?
