ISLAMABAD: Leading jurist Chaudhry Aitzaz Ahsan is all set to present pro bono publico opinion before a parliamentary accountability panel and propose proper legislation here on Thursday to prevent doctors’ negligence cases in the country.
“Yes, I will give my legal and constitutional opinion to check repetition of negligence cases and to provide a legal cover to the patients,” Aitzaz confirmed to The Statesmen when contacted here on Wednesday.
Panel Chairman Dr Tariq Fazl Chaudhry also endorsed Aitzaz’s availability in the meeting, which wants to compile comprehensive recommendations to avoid negligence on part of the doctors while providing medical treatment to the ailing people.
The National Assembly’s Health Committee had constituted a sub-body with Tariq Fazl its chairman with a task to probe into several negligence cases in general and former skipper Wasim Akram’s charges against doctors (negligence) in his late wife’s death in particular. Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PM&DC) and doctors mentioned by Wasim Akram in negligence came under heavy fire by the sub-committee members due to their absence.
