The daylight ambush on the Shaheed-i-Millat Road linking residential and commercial areas of the metropolis also left one of the activists injured.

KARACHI: A lawyer for the Mohajir Qaumi Movement (Haqiqi) chairman, two MQM-H workers and a taxi driver were shot dead on the Shaheed-e-Millat Road on Wednesday while they were returning home from Karachi’s Central jail after attending a hearing of a petition challenging their imprisonment.

The daylight ambush on one of the city’s busiest roads linking residential and commercial areas of the metropolis also left one of the activists injured. Although the number of bullets fired and people targeted in the taxi suggested the number of attackers to be more than one, investigators claim that only one man carrying a 9mm pistol committed the crime.

The victims were later identified as Sohail Anjum, the attorney for MQM-H chairman Afaq Ahmed, two workers Muhammad Sabir and Shafiq Ahmed, associated with the Landhi unit of the party, and taxi driver Akhtar Hussain.
