The revelation has been made in Mr Gilani’s response to media queries about a huge increase in cash in hand from his 2008 declaration of assets.
The annual declaration of assets filed by the PM to the Election Commission did not mention the liabilities of Rs45 million of his wife Fauzia Gilani. The PM House informed ‘The Statesmen’ that Rs45 million for settling liabilities of Mrs Gilani had been raised by selling factory assets in 2007.

The assets declaration also did not mention his Lahore residence in Defence, which has now been declared as the PM House in the city. The PM House now says the Lahore residence is a rented property.
Mr Gilani’s financial position got a boost after he became the chief executive. In 2008, he had Rs1 million cash in hand but that swelled to about Rs13 million.
He also purchased a house for Rs6.3 million in his hometown Multan during 2009.
The PM House said the cash in hand had increased following the sale of four acres of inherited land in Mouza Hamidpur Kannora in Multan. It said the sale deed which had been under process since Oct 2007 matured in March 2009.
