The govt’s current policy to deal with terrorism has failed … Terrorism has now spread across the country, the PTI chief said.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaaf chief Imran Khan says there is a need for a home-grown anti-terrorism policy, and not for statements condemning terrorism.

Pakistan’s internal situation, he said, was being exploited by foreign elements to create instability. What transpired in Karachi on Monday was the most recent example of this.

Mr Khan was talking to a delegation of his party workers and office-bearers from Sindh.

He extended condolences to families of the people killed in the suicide attack in Karachi and urged people to remain peaceful.

“The Karachi incident is a conspiracy to start sectarian violence. The government’s current policy to deal with terrorism has failed … Terrorism has now spread across the country,” the PTI chief said.

Mr Khan said it was the government’s duty to provide security to the citizens. “The administration has failed to do so in Karachi where a large number of shops were burnt, causing losses worth billions of rupees.

“The government must compensate those whose businesses were affected.”

Criticising the government, Mr Khan said that instead of chalking out a proper strategy to bring peace, ministers issued condemnation statements whenever terrorist incidents occurred in the country.

“We have seen in the past 22 months that the government has miserably failed in enforcing its writ and in improving the law and order situation,” he said.
