KARACHI: The MQM on Thursday rejected all the allegations levelled against them by ANP Sindh President Shahi Syed who blamed the political party for target killings in Karachi.

Addressing a press conference in Karachi, MQM politician Faisal Sabzwari condemned the allegations saying the ANP should avoid making it a ‘political matter’ everytime a Pushtun is killed in the city. He further said that the decision to quit the coalition rests with the leaders of ANP.

“Innocent people have been targeted in Qasba Colony by unidentified people, but Shahi Syed is trying to blame the MQM for these killings,” he said.

He accused the ANP president for patronising land and drug mafias in Karachi, alleging that “Syed became rich by heading the land mafia.” He further alleged that criminals in the city have been working under the flag of ANP.

Terming the reconciliation policy as the ‘biggest hurdle’ in mantaining peace and security in Karachi, Sabzwari said that the MQM has indicated terrorists’ dens and hideouts in Karachi to the government.

“It is now their responsibility to take action and ensure peace,” he said, adding that they have lodged a complaint with the Interior Ministry as well.

“The government should not be held hostage at the hands of blackmailers and carry out an operation to clear Karachi [and the rest of the country] of unauthorised weapons.”
