ISLAMABAD: A Petition has been filed with Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) seeking restoration of Nawaz Sharif government which was dissolved on October, 12, 1999.
The petitioner had taken the plea in his application that following the declaration of all the steps taken by former president Gen (Retd) Pervez Musharraf as unconstitutional and illegal by larger bench of Supreme Court (SC) led by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and acquittal of Mian Nawaz Sharif in plane hijacking case, steps taken for toppling the government on October, 12, 1999 had lost justification and legal standing, therefore the government in power prior to October, 12, 1999 with two thirds majority be restored.
The applicant Muhammad Ashfaq Chaudhry who was resident of Rawalpindi had further taken the plea National Assembly (NA) too had approved 18th amendment on April, 8, 2010.
The clause six of the 18th amendment related to nullification of all the unconstitutional and illegal steps taken by former president Pervez Musharraf on October, 12, 1999. All the members of NA expressed jubilation over unanimous approval of clause 96 of the constitution.
