KARACHI: A senate committee has ordered the details of the 2007 Shershah bridge collapse inquiry. The inquiry comes after ‘The Statesmen’ report that the people held responsible for the bridge’s collapse had been re-hired and even promoted.

Members of the committee are demanding that strict action be taken against officials including those of the National Highway Authority to be taken to task.

Federal Minister for Communication Arbab Alamgir says the National Logistics Cell and the National Highway Authority are equally responsible for the collapse of the Shershah Bridge in Karachi.

But he claims that only the National Highway Authority is being held responsible while the National Logistics Cell has been let off the hook.

The minister expressed frustration during a meeting of the senate’s Standing committee on communication, saying that it’s always civilians that are taken to task and not military personnel.
